SUTTER, CA (YSBC) – The Sutter Union Huskies girls flag football team suffered a Golden Empire League defeat at the hands of the Destiny Christian Academy Lions 32-12 on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

It didn't take Sutter long to get on the scoreboard as junior quarterback Mia Bautista found junior wide receiver Audrey Horn for a 55-yard touchdown pass that put the Huskies up 6-0 on the opening drive of the game.

Bautista completed 13 passes for 127 yards in the air and Horn led the Huskies with six receptions for 78 yards.

The Sutter defense shut down the Destiny Christian Academy offense for most of the first half, including an intersection by senior Jaime Haase on the Lions opening possession of the game.

The Huskies led by six at the end of the first and within the first couple plays of the second, DCA junior defensive back Amara Knowles picked up her first of two interceptions off of Bautista.

Knowles put the Lions on the scoreboard with four and a half minutes left in the first half as she caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Angel Pearce.

DCA senior linebacker McKayla Fulmer collected her first interception after a bobbled pass and took it back 20 yards for a touchdown and the Lions led 12-6 at the half.

Sutter head coach Brandon Supernaw expressed to Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that the Huskies had too many turnovers and it's tough to get a win when that happens.

The Lions added two more touchdowns in the third as senior Dorothy Odufuwa caught two short passes for touchdowns from Fullner and Pearce and DCA led 26-6 at the end of the third.

Supernaw told YSBC that he was proud of the way his team fought the entire game and kept bringing pressure defensively.

A key part of that pressure on the defensive end came from senior Presley Peyret.

Peyret was a front-line force defensively and pressured the Lions offense all game. Peyret led Sutter with nine tackles, 2.0 sacks and caught a touchdown pass from Bautista in the fourth quarter for 17 yards.

The Huskies are scheduled to travel to Rio Linda on Monday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
