MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - Third time’s the charm for new Marysville business owner Aimee Smith. Smith originally opened Junk in the Trunk last summer, just before the Hotel Marysville fire. Months of surrounding street closures left her shop inaccessible, forcing her to relocate briefly before returning to a spot with deep personal ties. Today, she’s back in the same storefront once owned by her father decades ago.
“He only had the store for a short time, and it was called Jerry’s Toy Haven,” Smith recalled. “I used to hang out there as a little girl, so I think it’s kinda cool that I ended up here.”

Rows of plates, baskets, glassware and kitchen collectibles line the walls at the new Junk in the Trunk store in downtown Marysville.
Located at 409 Fourth Street in downtown Marysville, Junk in the Trunk joins the area’s growing collection of antique and collectible shops. What sets her store apart, Smith said, is both affordability and variety.
“It’s a little bit of everything,” said Smith. “I do sell some antiques, but I also have a little bit of clothing, name-brand jerseys, all that. I do everything from furniture to electronics, jewelry, household items, seasonal stuff — you name it.”
Smith has been a collector nearly all her life. Born and raised in Marysville, she began buying and selling items at the racetrack and adjacent flea market when she was just 18. Over time, her ventures expanded to estate sales and abandoned storage units.

Inside Marysville’s new Junk in the Trunk store, aisles brim with clothing, collectibles and décor. Owner Aimee Smith says the variety and affordability set her store apart.
“I always had a bunch of junk in my trunk,” Smith joked. “And I still do. That’s how my shop got its name.”
The store officially opened the week of Sept. 11, timed perfectly with Marysville’s Fall Nights on D Street event, which Smith treated as a kind of grand opening. More events may follow, but for now, shoppers can browse her eclectic collection Monday through Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Eclectic items like vintage figurines, masks and home décor fill the shelves at Aimee Smith’s new shop Junk in the Trunk in downtown Marysville.
