MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) – Local filmmakers have once again risen to the challenge of making a short film in just 48 hours. The third annual Yuba-Sutter Flash Film Festival welcomed back some veteran filmmakers as well as some newcomers to this year’s event. Thirteen directors out of eighteen that originally registered were able to complete their films and submit them within the timeline. Now it’s time to get everyone together and see on the big screen what the teams created!

The Flash Film Festival screening event and award ceremony will be held at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City on Saturday, Sept. 27 starting at 4 p.m. Doors will open at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and are available at yubasutterarts.org or in the theater box office weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets at the door, if available, will be $20.

During a random drawing, each team drew a theme, along with an object and a line of dialogue from a famous film that had to be incorporated into the film. Each film also had to comply with a time limit of 4-6 minutes. Here are the titles and director’s names for this year’s entries.

"Gracie and Farthead" was directed by Samuel Bishop. "Power to the People" was directed by Marti Brown. "Stolen Vision" was directed by Miriam Webb. "Off Road" was directed by John Green. "Buzzkill" was directed by Shon Harris. "Pieces" was directed by Jake Livingood. "Dinner with Chloe and Lisa" was directed by George MacArthur. "Scarlet Whisper" was directed by Genia Moretti. "The Great Unveiling" was directed by Eric Preston. "A Day in the Life of a Barbie Addict" was directed by Brayden Thornsberry. "Dance of Life" was directed by Nathan Schemel. "The Laughing Candle" was directed by Chloe Valdez. "Porkies on the Moon" was directed by Pietro Vargas.

Films will be judged based on engaging and interesting stories, camera technique, understandable audio, thoughtful lighting and editing transitions and use of music to create mood.  Cash prizes are $500 for first place, $300 second place and $200 for third place. The Flash Film Festival is a project of Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture, the local affiliate of the CA Arts Council, dedicated to expanding opportunities and access for artists and audiences.  Come out and support our local filmmaking community, which includes students as well as seasoned pros on Sept. 27. If past festivals are any indication, it promises to be a very entertaining afternoon of artistic output.
