MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture will again host a free half-day clinic for local veterans at the Horses and Healing Therapeutic Riding Center in Lincoln, continuing its tradition of offering unique, hands-on experiences for veterans. The clinic will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and will include a series of activities designed to connect participants with the healing power of horses. A supplemental art project will also be part of the day’s events.

Registered participants will meet at 624 E St. in Marysville at 8:30 a.m. for check-in and a 9 a.m. departure. Transportation will be provided by carpool or caravan for those wishing to drive themselves. Veterans may also meet at the riding center, located at 7801 Lakeview Lane, Lincoln. Lunch is included. Advance registration is required, along with a $20 deposit to hold a spot; the fee will be reimbursed in cash on the day of the event.

Equine-assisted therapy programs offer physical, emotional and psychological benefits, and are often used to help veterans cope with injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and the transition to civilian life. Organizers say working with horses can be a powerful symbol of trust, healing and resilience.

This is the third year Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture has offered free outdoor programs for the community, funded by an Outdoor Equity Program grant from the California State Parks and Recreation Department. Veterans can register at yubasutterarts.org or contact program coordinator Anna Newman at 956-525-2031 for more information.
