MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - The darkly stylish world of island intrigue returns this fall as “Café Noir Suspicions” sets up shop at the elusive speakeasy at Neva’s Place in Marysville. Presented by The Sedona Project, this immersive murder mystery dinner theater invites audiences back into the smoky, jazz-laced atmosphere of last year’s hit — but no prior experience is required to enjoy the show.
“Each story stands alone, so everyone will feel right at home, whether they’re returning patrons or newcomers to the Café,” said director Amber Colvin, who also stars as Sheila Wonderly.
The production blends sharp dialogue, moody ambiance and unexpected twists, all while attendees enjoy dinner, dessert and libations. Tickets start at $75 and work to benefit The Sedona Project - a local nonprofit dedicated to providing affordable mental wellness services, group support and retreats in the Yuba-Sutter region. Last year’s run raised approximately $13,000, helping the organization expand programming and secure a cozy studio space in the Miller Building on Olive Street.
“Dinner Theatre is a completely different animal. It's intimate, interactive and immersive. The audience gets to experience what it feels like to be part of the show, and as an actor it keeps you on your toes,” Colvin said. “I most love the opportunity it presents to raise funds for the betterment of our community through charitable contributions.”

This year's featured cast is a mix of new and familiar faces: Joseph Moye as Richard Archer, Wendi Jellsey as Ingrid Laszlo, Anthony Dost as Deputy Inspector Rigfield/Renault, Jaie Wilder as Anthony Cairo, Aaron Watkins as Sidney Ferrari, Elizabeth Brown as Claudette Ponte/Judge Koch and Randy Warner as Bartender. Colvin noted that Aaron Watkins and Elizabeth Brown are newcomers, while Dost and Wilder return in new capacities.
As for the dining portion, the menu is still to be announced, though last year’s Caribbean-inspired fare was a crowd favorite.
“We hope to bring the same experience this year,” Colvin said.
Neva’s Place offers a unique underground setting, but attendees should note that the venue is not handicap accessible — dinner is served upstairs, and the show is staged down a flight of stairs. Guests with mobility concerns are encouraged to let the cast know when purchasing tickets, as they are happy to bring dinner down to those who need it. The venue is not wheelchair accessible.
Those attending in groups who wish to sit together are encouraged to reserve a table that accommodates their party. If that’s not possible, let the organizers know at the time of purchase and they will do their best to arrange seating. For guests looking to add a little extra flair to their evening, “Neva’s Underground Special” upgrades are available.
Performances of “Café Noir Suspicions” will begin on Sept. 12 and run through Sept. 28. Evening performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:45-9:30 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 11 a.m. Neva’s Place is located in downtown historic Marysville at 101 C St., parking is free, For more information or to purchase tickets visit thesedonaproject.org/event/cafe-noir-suspicions/2025-09-27.
