United Way Presents Community Awards

YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Each year, The Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Ways recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations for their major commitments to the wellbeing of citizens in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa Counties.
On Thursday, Aug. 7, 120 people gathered for the annual “Celebration of Service and Awards Breakfast” at Hillcrest Catering in Yuba City.
Since 1976, the local United Way has presented the prestigious “Pedro Award,” which is the only award of its kind, recognizing an individual’s lifetime of caring for his/her fellow man without thought of personal gain. This year’s recipient is Jackie Sillman

Sillman has devoted her life to caring for others selflessly and without any expectation of personal gain. She has an unwavering dedication to the wellbeing and betterment of others and the community.
The 2024 Pedro Award recipient, John Mallen, Sr. introduced Sillman saying “Jackie creates a ripple effect that spreads kindness, love and care to all she touches. She has a lifelong commitment to the community and is always finding ways to connect people of all walks of life.”
A second prestigious award, “The Nancy Ferreira Leadership Award,” which is given to an individual or organization most significantly contributing to the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa community, was given to John Sowles, a longtime volunteer at Christian Assistance Network.

Receiving the "Celebration of Service” award for their many years of service to those in need were California Water Company and Amcor.
Other awards presented were the Bill Smith Spirit of Caring award that went to Manny Cardoza and the President’s Award presented to Terry Raley.
