MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - The City of Marysville announced the promotion of Interim Chief of Police Vance Nabeta to the position of chief of police.
Chief Nabeta’s distinguished law enforcement career began in 1993 with the Marysville Police Department, where he served as a police officer and advanced to a patrol sergeant. During his tenure, he worked in community-oriented policing and contributed to the NET-5 task force. In 2003, he joined the Yuba City Police Department, serving as a police officer until 2006. He then spent six years as a special agent with the California Department of Justice, managing large-scale, complex investigations spanning multiple agencies and jurisdictions. He joined the San Bruno Police Department in 2012, where he served as detective corporal until his retirement in December 2020.
In March 2021, Nabeta returned to the Marysville Police Department as a retired annuitant detective, later accepting a contract lieutenant position. He came out of retirement to serve full time and, since April, has led the department as interim chief of police.
“As chief of police, my goal is to serve our community with integrity, humility and a commitment to excellence,” said Chief Nabeta. “I strive to meet the needs of both our department and our city, while fostering and developing the next generation of leaders who will carry our mission forward.”
A
lifelong connection to the community fuels his dedication.
“I grew up here, attending Kynoch and
McKenney, graduating from Marysville High School, and my heart has always been
with Marysville,” Nabeta said. “This city isn’t just where I lived for nearly
30 years; it’s where I built my life, my friendships, and my roots. Marysville
will always be home, and I’m humbled to serve the residents as chief of
police.”
