YUBA-SUTTER, CA (MPG) - Local law enforcement agencies across the Yuba-Sutter region are gearing up to host National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5, with a variety of free, family-friendly events aimed at strengthening ties between neighbors and public safety personnel.
National Night Out, first launched in 1984, is a nationwide community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. What started as simple porchlight vigils has grown into a coast-to-coast movement involving millions of residents in all 50 states.
This year’s festivities will be hosted by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, Yuba City Police Department and Marysville Police Department. Events will include food, games, music and opportunities for residents to meet with local officers and firefighters in relaxed, informal settings.

Marysville Police will host a gathering at Triplett Park, 529 Rideout Way, from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring free food, activities, music and appearances by public safety officials. Sutter County Sheriff’s Office will hold its event at 1077 Civic Center Blvd. from 5:30 to 9 p.m., with food trucks, games, face painting and a K9 demonstration scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
In Yuba County, residents are encouraged to organize neighborhood celebrations of their own. Deputies will visit registered gatherings throughout the evening. Sheriff Wendell Anderson said the event provides valuable opportunities to connect directly with residents. To register an event, contact Rosa Leon at 530-749-5103 or email [email protected] by Friday, Aug. 1.
Yuba City Police will also be participating with community outreach stops at several local apartment complexes, including Lincoln Place and Richland Estates. For more information, contact Sgt. Michael Gwinnup at 530-822-4661.
All events are free and open to the public. Organizers encourage families to attend, connect with their neighbors and take part in this nationwide effort to promote safer, more united communities.
