Cast members from last year’s sold-out production of “Newsies” strike a pose at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts in Yuba City. The high-energy musical was a major hit for Center Stage Productions, showcasing the talents of youth performers from across the Yuba-Sutter region.
MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - This summer, Center Stage Productions is bringing triple the magic to the Yuba-Sutter region with not one, not two, but three full-scale youth musicals. Kicking off the season is Disney’s “The Aristocats KIDS,” followed by the beloved classics “The Music Man” and “Mary Poppins Jr.” All performances will be held at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts in Yuba City.
Now in its third year of partnership with Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture, Center Stage Productions continues its mission of nurturing young talent and enriching the local arts scene. This summer’s cast features over 100 local youth performers, ages 7 to 17, many of whom have been with the company since its founding by Corey and Morgan Kersting. Corey, a music and theater educator in the Yuba City Unified School District, also serves as the artistic director of the Yuba-Sutter Symphony Orchestra. Morgan is an administrator at Studio B Ballet Academy in Yuba City.
“We are so excited to be presenting these shows for our community,” said Corey Kersting. “It’s been an inspiring experience watching our students grow, and we’re thrilled to welcome new performers into the fold each season.

Director Corey Kersting leads a rehearsal for The Music Man Jr. at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, as young cast members prepare to bring the beloved Broadway classic to life in one of Center Stage Productions’ three summer musicals.
First to hit the stage is “The Aristocats KIDS,” presented by Center Stage’s Youth Academy. This delightful Disney favorite follows a group of pampered Parisian felines who must find their way home after being abandoned in the countryside by a greedy butler. With the help of a street-smart alley cat, they embark on a musical journey full of friendship and feline fun. “The Aristocats KIDS” will be performed on Friday, July 25 at 7 p.m., and again on Saturday, July 26 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Next comes “The Music Man,” the toe-tapping tale of charismatic con man Harold Hill, who plans to swindle the townsfolk of River City by selling instruments for a boys’ band he never intends to create—until love and community get in the way. Audiences can catch The Music Man beginning Thursday, July 31 at 7 p.m., with additional evening shows on Aug. 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9. Matinee performances will also be offered on Saturday, August 2 and Saturday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m.
Rounding out the season is “Mary Poppins Jr.,” the magical story of everyone’s favorite nanny who brings order, joy, and imagination to the Banks family with a spoonful of song and heart. Performances for “Mary Poppins Jr.” will take place on Sunday, Aug. 3 and Sunday, Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., as well as Monday, Aug. 4 and Monday, August 11 at 6:30 p.m.
All performances will take place at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts, located at 754 Plumas Street in Yuba City. Free parking is available in nearby lots and along the street. Tickets are $10 for “The Aristocats KIDS” and “Mary Poppins Jr.,” and $15 for “The Music Man.” They can be purchased online at www.yubasutterarts.org or by calling 530-742-ARTS.
