MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - A massive new haunted house attraction is coming to Beckwourth Riverfront Park this fall and despite the eerie buildup and anonymous online teasers, “Marysville Underground” is 100% real.
The full-scale, immersive event opens in October and promises a fright-filled journey through multiple custom-built haunted structures. Inspired by the mythos of the “Marysville Underground,” a long-rumored network of buried tunnels beneath downtown, this sprawling haunted experience will reimagine that local legend with frightening detail.
Organizers are intentionally keeping their identities hidden to preserve the mystery, but after some early skepticism from locals who questioned the event’s legitimacy, it has now been confirmed: the attraction is happening and it’s hiring!
“This isn’t a pop-up scare shack or a volunteer-run garage haunt,” one representative shared. “We’re building and trucking in real sets, employing local talent and producing a very theatrical, horror-based experience that’s never been done before in Marysville.”

According to the official website, marysvilleunderground.com, the event includes three large-scale haunted structures including a twisting Labyrinth, a deranged slaughter house and a high-intensity Zombie Escape spread across a 40,000-square-foot obstacle zone. Each participant receives a flag belt upon entry and must survive all three haunted realms without losing their flags. Those who succeed earn a prize that marks them as something more than human.
For those too faint of heart, the Monster Mash offers a massive viewing area with food, drinks, photo booths and live video feeds from the haunts. Meanwhile, children 12 and under can enjoy a tamer, spooky-themed adventure in the family-friendly Little Monsters zone.
“We’ve been planning this for a couple years now and have kept things really quiet until recently,” said the lead director for Marysville Underground. “Since releasing the information in June, we’ve had makeup artists reaching out and a bunch of people who want to be involved so that's pretty exciting.”
The event’s website, marysvilleunderground.com, offers detailed previews of each section of the haunt, including recommended age limits, employment opportunities and pricing tiers. Ticket sales are already live, with early bird specials going on until Aug. 31. Organizers suggest booking early, due to expected demand.
