City Appoints Jim Runyen as New Chief of Police

YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The City of Yuba City is proud to announce the appointment of Jim Runyen as the next Chief of Police for the Yuba City Police Department. Chief Runyen has been serving as Interim Chief since January, providing steady leadership, strong vision and a deep commitment to the Yuba City community.

Chief Runyen began his law enforcement career in 2003 with the Huntington Beach Police Department. He joined the Yuba City Police Department in 2006 and has served in a wide range of assignments, including Field Training Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Detective, SWAT Operator and Tactical Commander, Sergeant, Operations Support Lieutenant, Patrol Lieutenant and Field Operations Commander.

“Chief Runyen brings not only a strong background in law enforcement but a clear vision for the future of public safety in Yuba City,” said Mayor Shaw. “We’re confident in his ability to lead with integrity and foster a strong, unified relationship with our community. We’re excited to move forward under his capable leadership.”

Chief Runyen holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Chico, and a master’s degree in administrative leadership from the University of Oklahoma.

A proud Yuba City resident, Chief Runyen lives with his wife Stacy and their two children, both students at River Valley High School. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, fishing, and cheering on his kids at local sporting events.

“It’s an incredible honor to be selected as Chief of Police in the city where I live and raise my family,” said Chief Runyen. “I’m committed to fostering trust, enhancing safety, and leading a department that reflects the values of our community.”

A formal pinning ceremony will take place during the Yuba City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 1 at 6 p.m. at City Hall after press time. Chief Runyen will officially assume the role of Chief of Police following the ceremony.
