NEVADA COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Nevada County Concert Band kicks off its beloved “Pioneer Park Picnic Pops” summer concert series with a lively and free outdoor performance on Sunday, June 22, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Park bandshell, located at Park and Nimrod streets in Nevada City.

Under the direction of Cheryl Woldseth, the 60-member community band will present a program themed “California: Concept” in celebration of the 175th anniversary of California statehood. Audiences can expect an entertaining evening of toe-tapping marches, iconic film scores, popular tunes, standout soloists, and more.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a picnic dinner or visit on-site vendors offering hot dogs and ice cream. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and leashed dogs are welcome.

Admission is free and no tickets are required. Donations to support the nonprofit band are appreciated and can be made at the event or through the band's website at www.nccb.org.

The summer series continues with two more themed concerts at Pioneer Park July 27, with presenting the theme “Ability” and Aug.  24, with the theme “Worth.”

Additional upcoming performances by the Nevada County Concert Band are as follows.

July 4, Independence Day Curbside Concert, downtown Grass Valley, in front of Sergio’s Café.

Aug. 9, Pops Concert at the Fair, Pine Tree Stage, Nevada County Fairgrounds (time TBD).

Aug. 31, Labor Day Picnic Pops Concert at Lake Wildwood’s Bugler Cove (residents only).

Sept. 20, Constitution Day Pops Concert, downtown Nevada City on Pine Street, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
