Respected Yuba City Fire Chief Bids Farewell
Jun 11, 2025 09:37AM ● By City of Yuba City News ReleaseYUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - After five years of dedicated service to the Yuba City Fire Department, Fire Chief Jesse Alexander has announced his resignation, effective July 4.
Since 2020, Alexander has served the Yuba City community with distinction and is widely respected not only for his commitment to public safety but for his genuine disposition, integrity and tireless work on emergency preparedness.
“Chief Alexander has been a stabilizing force and a pillar of excellence and humility for the Yuba City Fire Department and this city,” said Mayor Dave Shaw. “We are saddened to see him go but we wish him well in all of his future endeavors.”
Alexander started his career as a firefighter with CAL FIRE in the Auburn area. In 2001, Alexander joined the City of Chico Fire Department where he served for 19 years and held key operational positions on many high-profile incidents, including the Oroville Spillway Incident and the Camp Fire.
In 2020, Alexander became the Yuba City fire chief. Under Alexander’s leadership, the department and the city implemented several major initiatives, including developing an Emergency Operations Plan, Continuity of Operations Plan and a complete overhaul of the city's Emergency Preparedness Program.
Going forward, Alexander will continue his service as a fire chief in Southern California for the Manhattan Beach Fire Department.
“Serving the people of Yuba City has been my honor,” Alexander said. “I am incredibly grateful for the trust placed in me by the community, my first-responder family and city leadership. While I am excited for my next chapter, Yuba City will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.”
Alexander’s contributions to the City of Yuba City will be recognized by City Council at the City Council meeting at 6 p.m. June 17. The City of Yuba City will announce its next steps for departmental leadership in the coming weeks.
