MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - CORE’s Performing Arts Department invites families and community members to a theatrical event celebrating student talent and creativity across generations and genres. Featuring three engaging performances in one magical showcase, this year’s spring play season will run from May 7 to 10, with evening shows at 5:30 Wednesday through Friday and a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee at the Event Center at Adventure Church, 876 W Onstott Frontage Road, Yuba Cit
Audiences are welcome to join at 5:30 p.m. to catch both middle school productions or come at 7:30 p.m. to enjoy just the high school feature. The price is the same (adults $10, students $5, children under 5 free) whether you come for one show or stay for all three, so we encourage you to make a night of it.
“Alice in Wonderland” written by Jennifer Reif and performed by middle school students, is one of many shows. This condensed 20-minute adaptation brings the whimsical world of Wonderland to life, following Alice on her curiouser and curiouser journey. Along the way, she encounters iconic characters, such as the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts, all guiding her in discovering the power of questioning, imagination and self-confidence. Audiences can enjoy this performance on May 7 and 8 with Cast A or on May 9 and 10 with Cast B.
Next, the middle school drama students will present “Peter Pan,” adapted by Kate Brier. This lively retelling of J.M. Barrie’s beloved tale takes the audience on an exciting adventure through the skies of London and the wilds of Neverland. Peter, Wendy and the Lost Boys meet pirates, fairies, mermaids and even a ticking crocodile in this family-friendly production.
During intermission, guests can enjoy a selection of refreshments and enter raffles, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The evening wraps up with “The Oscars: A Theatrical Time Machine,” an original production by CORE High School students. In the style of a glamorous awards show, this clever and comedic time-traveling journey explores the history of theater through the ages. Featuring sample scenes from classic playwrights and iconic eras, the show is hosted by witty “Oscar” presenters and celebrity-style characters. From ancient Greece to Shakespeare to contemporary theater, the performance offers a fast-paced, educational, and laugh-out-loud look at the evolution of live performance.
This production is made possible through the dedication of our student performers, staff and community.
