SUTTER COUNTY, CA (MPG) – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is alerting motorists about detours on State Route 99 (SR 99) at Oswald Road as construction begins on a $15.8 million safety improvement project in Sutter County.
Oswald Road will be temporarily closed to through traffic in both directions for the next few months during construction as crews work on a new signal to improve safety at the intersection. Detour signs are posted to direct traffic to alternate routes. Access for emergency services will be maintained.
The project will construct a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 99 and Oswald Road to reduce collisions, improve traffic flow and accommodate future growth in the area. Work is projected to be complete by December, weather permitting.
This project is funded through Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) and a $1.7 million contribution from Sutter County.
Senate Bill 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually, shared equally between state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of Senate Bill 1 funds, including projects partially funded by Senate Bill 1.
