MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) – Kalakara Arts Studios and its surrounding grounds are the best kept secret in Yuba-Sutter. It’s Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture’s artist studio complex and the home base for several of Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture’s programs including Pamela Nowak’s Plumas Palette studio and Chris Bolton’s Dinosaur Factory. In Hindi, “Kalakar” means artist or artisan. It encompasses individuals who are skilled in various arts, including painting, sculpting, music, acting, and other creative fields. It can also refer to a performer or someone who exhibits artistic talent.
The event at Kalakara, 565 Reeves Avenue (and Walnut) in Yuba City, is called “HEARTBEAT” and will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Located just off Plumas Street, join Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture for the biggest art sale ever. See hundreds of original, but affordable works of art, framed and unframed, in all price ranges and just in time for Mother’s Day gift giving.
As an extra added attraction, guests will be able to pose with animatronic dinosaurs created by local artist and engineer, Christopher Bolton. Photo courtesy of Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture
Artists will be on hand showing and selling their work. It’s all for a great cause, raising funds to open the 299 seat Main Stage at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts. Food trucks, live music and lots of great people will be on hand at this unique event. Arts educators will help young people with some great arts project that they can complete on site. Collaborators from the Yuba Sutter Rotary Night Club will also be on hand giving away free succulents as a “value add” for the event to entice the community to attend. The festival is free and open to the public.
As an extra added attraction, guests will be able to pose with animatronic dinosaurs created by local artist and engineer, Christopher Bolton. Chris spent several years in Los Angeles working on sets and props for the film industry. He inherited a couple of the dinosaurs he helped create and they’ll be available as a fun backdrop for family portraits and selfies.
The Main Stage Theater at the Sutter Theater Center for the Arts is the other half of the original Sutter Movie Theater which opened in 1950. The front lobby, concession stand, bar, art gallery and Clark Family Theater have been open for several years now. Live music, theater and gallery opening receptions are mainstays. Once open, the Main Stage will host larger events on its proscenium stage including live music and theater programs. It will be the premier performing arts venue in the community. Student performances will also be part of the annual calendar of events.
