City of Marysville Opposes California Water Service’s Proposed 33% Rate Increase
Jan 28, 2025 10:22AM ● By City of Marysville News ReleaseMARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - The City of Marysville expresses strong opposition to California Water Service’s (Cal Water) proposed 33% rate increase. This significant hike would disproportionately impact Marysville residents, who already face higher water rates compared to neighboring jurisdictions.
A special City Council meeting was held Thursday, Jan. 23 to address this pressing issue and strategize on behalf of our community.
Comparative Analysis of Water Rates
Recent data indicates that Marysville’s water rates are among the highest in the region. For instance, a study by the San Juan Water District shows that other urban California water agencies have considerably lower monthly bills for similar water usage.
City of Marysville’s Position
The proposed 33% increase exacerbates existing disparities and places an undue burden on Marysville residents. The City urges Cal Water and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to reconsider this proposal, taking into account the financial strain on our community.
Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming City Council meetings to voice their concerns. The city remains committed to advocating for fair and equitable water rates and will continue to engage with Cal Water and the CPUC to protect the interests of Marysville’s citizens.
