WILLOWS, CA (MPG) - Work is scheduled to progress along State Route 162 (SR-162) for broadband infrastructure improvements in Willows. As work continues, motorists should be aware of scheduled activities and traffic impacts.

Schedule of Work and Traffic Impacts

Jan. 29 – Feb. 2 – Underground drilling work will begin on the west end of Willows. Motorists should anticipate brief traffic delays.

Feb.  5 - Feb. 9 – Drilling will continue, and crews will begin installing casing at four bridges, starting at Interstate 5, and moving eastward.

Interstate 5 (I-5) Night Work and Lane Closures

In addition to the work along SR-162, crews will conduct night work at the I-5 separation bridge to attach a conduit. This work will require lane closures as follows:

Feb. 4 - 5 – Southbound I-5 lane closures

Feb. 6 – Northbound I-5 lane closures

Lane closures will be intermittent and affect all lanes. Work will also take place inside the median and along the shoulders at various points along SR-162 and I-5 as work progresses. No full closures are anticipated and only one lane will be closed at a time.

Traffic control measures including lane shifts, flaggers, and intermittent stops, will be in place to guide motorists safely through the work zone. Drivers should plan ahead, allow for extra travel time, and use caution while traveling through the area.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
