local Results Radio stations to collect turkeys, hams and cash to provide 1,600 turkeys and hams for family dinners and for holiday community meals to serve more than 5,000 individuals in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.
Cash collected is used to purchase hams and turkeys at a discount from local grocery stores.
This year, the campaign collected 393 turkeys and hams and with the $17,499 collected, purchased an additional 400 turkeys and 496 hams and 100 gift cards to purchase holiday foods for families identified by the Yuba Sutter Salvation Army and the Yuba Sutter Veterans Stand Down.
Twenty local organizations were given the turkeys and hams to use in holiday meals and gift baskets.
“About 50% of our local households struggle to make ends meet each month and they are so grateful to receive this loving care during the holiday season,” said Bob Harlan of the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way.
“At United Way, we are frankly astonished at the response we receive each year during the Turkey Drive, the Summer Cash for Food Drive and other requests for assisting our neighbors truly in need,” Harlan said.
