City of Marysville Settles Hotel Lawsuit and Takes Steps to Open State Highway 70 Northbound Lanes
Nov 14, 2024 03:24PM ● By City of Marysville News ReleaseMARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - As previously announced the City of Marysville has taken steps to secure financing and contracts for work on the Hotel Marysville structure such that normal traffic patterns can be restored within a reasonably short time frame. Beyond that, the City is pleased to announce Nov. 14 that the City and the owner of the Hotel Marysville property have settled the lawsuit initiated by the City over issues related to the hotel property and the June 15 fire that led to closure of northbound lanes of State Highway 70 and related troubles. The settlement results in title to the hotel property being transferred to the City along with monetary consideration of $700,000.
Mayor Chris Branscum said, “settling this lawsuit and gaining title to the hotel property sets the stage for the City to apply for a federal EPA grant to fund much of the cost to fully remediate the nuisance that property has presented. Further, once the property has been cleaned up and fit for development the City will be a strong position to influence development that is in the best interests of the City.”
City Manager Jim Schaad has previously said, “city management and staff are working with regional partners to arrange financing and in parallel organizing engineering and demolition assets and associated costs. Nov. 14 he added, “our immediate plans involve re-opening the state highway as the first step in a two-step process for total remediation and future development. Details on the specifics of those plans will follow in the immediate future. Again, the first step involves enough work to restore normal traffic patterns. The composition of the full plan will depend on real time further evaluation of financial risk and costs.”
