YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The Yuba Sutter Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Corey Kersting, will present their Fall Classics Concert on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1390 Franklin Road, Yuba City.

The concert will feature works by Mozart, Dvorak and Shostakovich.

The guest soloist for the concert will be pianist Emily Hayes. Hayes is a gifted pianist who grew up in Colusa and graduated from the esteemed Thornton School of Music at USC.  She studied under Dr. Lucinda Carver, Vice Dean of Classical Performance and Composition and received both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degree in Piano Performance.

“We are thrilled to have Emily play Mozart’s Piano Concerto #23.  Emily plays with zest and precision and makes the Steinway concert grand piano resound with music that will delight the audience,” Kersting stated.

Kersting added, “It is a joy to welcome Emily back to play with our orchestra. When she was 13 years old, she was one of the winners of our annual Young Artist Competition and made her debut as a concerto soloist with the Yuba Sutter Symphony.  She has also performed with the North State Symphony.”

The concert will also include Dvorak’s Symphony #8 and Shostakovich’s “Festival Overture.”

“These two orchestral pieces are full of energy, beauty, and joy.  These numbers, along with the Mozart Piano Concerto, are sure to create a memorable and inspiring evening of music!” Kersting said.

Both concerts are free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
