Sep 18, 2024 01:23PM ● By Marysville Elks Lodge News Release

MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - Marysville Elk volunteers manned a table at the recent three-day annual Yuba-Sutter Veterans Stand Down, held at the Yuba City Fairgrounds with great success.

Over the three days, approximately 950 veterans attended the Stand Down, and the Elks passed out over 2,500 wash cloths to the Vets, in bundles of six each.

The Marysville Elks next Community outreach will be in the form of an Americanism Essay Contest, with cash prizes for the top winners.

Essay grading will be in four separate divisions for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Top winners’ awards for each grade level are $1,000 for first-place, $500 for second-place and $250 for third-place.

The selected theme for this 2024-2025 contest is “What Does Patriotism Mean to Me?”

This contest is vitally important to Elks as it promotes Americanism in our local communities. It encourages 10–13-year-old students to thoughtfully consider American values and appreciate the blessing and responsibilities of citizenship.
