Marysville Indians prepare to run an offensive play.

SUTTER, CA (MPG) - The Huskies improve to 3-0 on the season after demolishing the Marysville Indians this past Friday, Sept. 6.

The Indians had one bright spot, and that was when they forced a fumble on the Huskies’ first offensive possession. But after giving the ball right back from a fumble of their own, the Huskies piled on with stifling defense and an overwhelming rushing attack.

The Huskies established a running game early with four straight runs to pound into the endzone for their first touchdown. It then only took three runs on their next possession to score another touchdown after forcing an interception on defense.

When the Indians went back on offense, it was apparent what the theme of the game would be after gaining next to no yards on all three downs and being forced to punt. Punting would prove to be a staple for the Indians.

The Huskies’ fourth drive started at the end of the first quarter and ended with a touchdown early in the second. In this drive, the Huskies would try to establish a passing game but missed throws and penalties put a halt to that. Instead, the Huskies went back to what was working and ran the ball into the endzone, making it 21-0.

It was much of the same all game for the Huskies. The defense would force a quick three and out, and the offense would run the ball for touchdowns on all but one possession where they threw. The Huskies scored touchdowns on eight of their nine possessions, making the final score 56-0. The only thing that went wrong for the Huskies was a sub-par passing game and penalties. The Huskies had ten total penalties, which would be crippling against stiffer competition.

The same cannot be said about the Indians as they punted on six of their eight possessions. The two where they didn’t punt resulted in turnovers. Penalties were the only aspect of the game where the Indians were better, as they had five. As bad as losing is, the Indians still have a long season ahead of them where improvements can be made.

The Marysville Indians will look to get their first victory at home against East Nicolaus while the Sutter Huskies will take their show on the road against Bradshaw Christian. Both games are this Friday, Sept. 13.
