MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - The Marysville Drakes had a tough week as they hit a rough patch early into the season as they have dipped towards the bottom of the Pacific standings by going 1-5 from Sunday, May 26, through Saturday, June 1.

Marysville started last week off with a four-game road trip as they played at Vallejo on May 26 before they traveled down a few hours to play in Bakersfield for three consecutive nights.

The Drakes were in all of the games and had opportunities, but Marysville manager Bill Rogan told the Dispatch they couldn’t get the “big hit” to put them over the hump with the opposing teams.

Rogan added that his bullpen was depleted throughout the week, but the health of players’ arms is coming back.

The Drakes added a few new faces to the roster within the last week that made their Marysville debuts in the 11-10 victory over Dublin on Friday, May 31.

Drakes infielder Jumpei Ohashi last played for Missouri Valley College in 2023, which is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Ohashi said to the Dispatch that he tried out during spring training in Tuscon, Arizona, and eventually found his way to the Drakes’ roster.

Ohashi accomplished his first hit, a Pecos League milestone, in the win against Dublin, and Ohashi was happy to get it out of the way.

He added that his goal for the remainder of the season is to make the postseason and compete the best every day.

Ohashi added a couple more hits in the 7-1 defeat to Bakersfield on Saturday, June 1, to give him four hits on the season.

The other debut in a Marysville uniform against Dublin was right-handed pitcher AJ Cordova. Cordova made his debut for the Drakes as the starting pitcher against Dublin. Cordova pitched 3.2 innings before he was relieved in the fourth inning.

Cordova threw around 90 pitches and gave up four hits, surrendered four runs and walked nine before Rogan took him out of the game.

Rogan told the Dispatch that he believes in the club and they will be able to string a few wins together to get a good jump back into the Pacific standings.

Marysville had three opportunities this week to get their first road victory of the season before they host Martinez tonight (Friday, June 7) at 6:30 p.m, and Vallejo tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled to be tossed at 6:30 p.m.
