MARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - The Grand Marshall for the 144th Bok Kai Parade is Marysville’s very own Judy Mann, a Community Advocate. Born in San Francisco during the Year of the Rat, she arrived in the Yuba-Sutter area in 1981. After 37 years in banking, she started volunteering with various organizations in the Yuba/Sutter area. She started with the Red Cross, Senior Center, and the Sutter Memorial. The most rewarding was volunteering with the Chamber of Commerce, which hence began her volunteer efforts with the local community. It was at that point when she fell in love with Marysville.

Judy also states she has always had a passion for the Asian Culture and is very much involved. She has now attended the parade for over 45 years. Mann is a member of Friends of Bok Kai Temple and Historic Chinatown and serves as President of the Marysville Sister City Group. She has chaired the Bok Kai Parade & Festival in the past and was instrumental with the Historic Faire, History Talks, and the Info Center.

Judy states her most memorable memory is representing Marysville. Through its Sister City, she remembers going with a group of Marysville representatives to visit the Sister City in Taiwan, that now foster a sisterhood-relationship, for 38 years. Currently, she serves on three non-profit boards and is a member of five other organizations all tied to Marysville & Yuba-Sutter’s local history. She is a strong advocate for Marysville, its businesses, and its history.

Today you can find her doing what she does best sharing tidbits and doing monthly walking tours titled “The Hidden Treasures” of Marysville!
