YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Officer Meagan Ross began her law enforcement career with the Yuba City Police Department in 2019. Officer Ross has worked hard as a patrol officer, establishing herself as an energetic, proactive officer, who is always willing to help others.

In 2022 and throughout 2023, the communication center faced a severe staffing shortage. Officer Ross stepped up to help during this critical time. She quickly became familiar with the dispatch center and began covering vacant shifts as her patrol duties allowed. In 2023, in addition to working her assigned patrol shift, Officer Ross worked 233 hours in the dispatch center, providing much-needed help.

Officer Ross also devoted extra time to the K9 program as a decoy over the past two years. During her time off, Officer Ross volunteered to help the Yuba City K9 Association with fundraising to purchase needed equipment for the program. Her dedication to the K9 unit led her to be selected as the department’s next K9 handler. Officer Ross has completed the Police K9 Handler’s school and is currently on patrol with her partner, K9 Riggs.

Officer Ross’ hard work and dedication to her duties as a peace officer bring great credit to the Yuba City Police Department and the law enforcement profession. Her work ethic and support for her co-workers is commendable and worthy of recognition. For these reasons, the Yuba City Police Department is honored to name Officer Meagan Ross as the 2023 Officer of the Year.
