Residents Still Without Power a Day After Heavy Winds
Feb 06, 2024 03:15PM ● By MPG StaffYUBA COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The region’s weekend storm Sunday and Monday has affected several thousand residents at home, work and while driving.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, the Yuba County Office of Emergency Services reported that 8,822 Yuba County residents remained without power as a consequence of the storm’s high winds and heavy rainfall.
“We’re hearing from PG&E that restoration to power in some locations will take longer than 24 hours; they aim to operate a Community Resource Center in the foothills at some point tomorrow (Tuesday),” according to the Office of Emergency Services Facebook page. “In the meantime, Yuba County is opening a resource center at our Yuba County Health & Human Services, located at 5730 Packard Avenue in Linda. You can charge your devices, connect to WiFi, have access to restrooms, and heat. This will operate from 3 – 6 p.m. today (Monday) and during business hours tomorrow (Tuesday) 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Enter the main lobby and you will see signs pointing you to the Peach/Yuba conference room.”
The stormy weather also impacted travel on area roadways, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page.
While Ramirez Road was reopened at 9 a.m. Monday, road closures as of Monday afternoon affecting Yuba County included Hammonton-Smartsville Road and North Beale Road, both closed from Griffith to Brophy; Highway 70 and Ramirez Road, one mile east of the railroad tracks; South Beale Road at Bradshaw; River Run at River Bank; 7th at Okmulgee to Fleming Road; and Old Dobbins at Marysville Road.
On Monday, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department urged residents to “please be careful and watch for debris and fallen trees.”
