Senator Niello Responds to the Acceleration of the Sites Reservoir ProjectNov 15, 2023 02:56PM ● By Office of Senator Roger Niello
SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - Senator Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks) released the following statement regarding Governor Newsom’s announcement to accelerate the Sites Reservoir Project:
“As we prepare for another wet winter, it is imperative to continue pushing water storage projects forward for California’s future,” said Niello. “Even though the benefits of the Sties Reservoir have been clear from the beginning, the project has unnecessarily been on hold. While we are still multiple approvals and years away from the construction process, I am pleased to hear that the Sites Reservoir project is finally getting the chance to move forward in an expeditious manner.”
Currently, much of the rainfall California receives is not captured. As proposed, Sites Reservoir will be a 1.5 million acre-foot reservoir located in the Sacramento Valley west of Maxwell and will capture storm-related runoff and a portion of storm-related flood water to increase water supply in drier years.
Elected in 2022, Senator Niello represents California Senate District 6, which covers portions of Placer and Sacramento Counties and all of Sutter and Yuba Counties.
