TUOLUMNE, CA (MPG) - The Marysville Indians football team had their season end on Friday, November 3 as they lost 21-8 to the Summerville Bears in the first round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI playoffs.

Marysville senior fullback Jake Foster (22) rushes the ball in the Indians 21-8 loss to Summerville on Friday, November 3 in the first round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI playoffs.
Marysville had their chances in the game to pull out the victory, but Summerville was able to keep the edge on them.
Indians head coach Will Claggett told the Dispatch his team took a while to get going as they came out of the beginning a little slow.
He added they had put together a few good drives in the first half and eventually got in the end zone later in the second quarter with an 8-7 lead and eventually took that into the locker room for the end of the first half.
Claggett expressed to the Dispatch that Summerville controlled the ball for most of the second half and were able to put a couple of nice scoring drives together.
The Indians did help with a couple of penalties to extend some of the drives for the Bears, Claggett added.
“Defensively they loaded the box really well and it was a game where some of the penalties just happened to get us at the right time,” Claggett said.
Although Marysville lost the game, Claggett expressed how happy and proud of how much this group did.
“We we’re able to build on our success from last year, deal with adversity from the transition of a heavy senior class, injuries, and etc.,” Claggett said.
He added that they could have easily missed the playoffs with the way their schedule was, but was proud of the grit this team had to push back against adversity.
Moving forward towards his third season as next year, Claggett hopes to continue building the program and is happy to be bringing back a lot of personnel and Claggett said he is the most excited he’s been since he took over the program.

Christian Brothers 42, Yuba City 14
SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The Yuba City Honkers lost to the Christian Brothers Falcons 42-14 in the first round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs on Friday, November 3.
The Honkers were not completely 100% on the field as they missed a key few pieces in the game and head coach Willie Burns said he was proud of his kids for fighting through.
For the last few weeks on the defensive side of the ball, Yuba City senior linebacker James Garceau was unavailable to play as he has been for the last couple of weeks and senior quarterback Dhiraj Atwal did play sparingly throughout the game as he was injured last week in the victory over River Valley.
Junior quarterback Ulysses Vaca saw significant time for the second week in a row as he stepped in for Atwal.
Burns said he was happy with how Vaca stepped up and worked.
Burns added that his defense was tremendous in the loss.
“We were able to get some red zone stops and I’m proud with how hard they played,” Burns said.
Burns added that he wants to continue building and trying to brand the “Yuba Tough” culture.
“When we just get down and play, we’re good, I want to get back to the blue collar work ethic and build the team mentality,” Burns said. “We’re going to get our kids on the track and back in the weight room.”
