WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) - The Marysville Indians baseball seniors heroically led a comeback as they beat the Bradshaw Christian Pride, who are the defending CIF NorCal Division IV champions in a walk-off win on Monday, April 24 at Sutter Health Park.

The quality win for Marysville started the week on a high-note as senior infielders Jack Howsley, Maddox Marino and Dairius Jacobs expressed to the Dispatch postgame.

The Indians used six different pitchers on the night to conserve pitcher availability for the week as they still had Pioneer Valley League games with Center the next two days.

Head coach Bill Rollins told the Dispatch all 17 players on his roster got in the game at one point throughout the night.

Bradshaw Christian got on the scoreboard in the first inning for the early lead.

Howsley gave Marysville the lead in the bottom of the third as he drove in two runs-batted-in (RBI) with a single. Jacobs and senior outfielder Kayden Ellyson scored off the single for the Indians 2-1 lead.

Previously to the single, Howsley was hit by a pitch, which would have just sent him to first base, but the home plate umpire said Howsley leaned into it and called it a strike instead of a HBP. After Howsley hit the single to drive in the two runs he clapped his hands loudly in excitement as he liked that result better.

Howsley pitched 2.2 innings from the fourth through sixth inning where he struck out five and gave up two hits.

Jacobs came in relief for Howsley on the mound where he threw one inning. He struck out two, but struggled to find the zone as he walked three hitters and gave up a hit to give the Pride the lead in the sixth inning with a score of 3-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Indians were down to their final out with a runner on first and Ellyson came up to the plate and ripped an opposite field double.

Jacobs followed Ellyson in the lineup. During postgame comments, Rollins expressed to the Dispatch he had a good feeling about the upcoming at bat.

“Darius walked it off for a couple times last season, including the playoffs so I wasn’t too worried,” Rollins said. He added that Jacobs was a confident hitter.

Jacobs delivered as he hit a single to the outfield and Ellyson scored from second with a head-first slide into home to give the Indians the win.

Jacobs was mobbed in between second and third base as the dog pile began in celebration. Jacobs went two-for-four at the plate with 2 RBIs.

Marino, Jacobs and Howsley were quick to appreciate and show love to all the support they had in the stands.

“Marysville travels and that has always been consistent with our dans,” Jacobs said. He added that the experience of playing under the lights was a cool experience as a lot of the team hasn’t played in that type of atmosphere since they were in little league.

Rollins exclaimed to the Dispatch that moments like the walk-off are examples of why he coaches baseball.

Marysville took care of Center in their PVL play of the week as they swept the two game series 7-0, and 13-4.

The CIF Sac-Joaquin section playoffs are right around the corner and the PVL gets four automatic bids in baseball for playoffs; the Indians currently sat in third on Sunday, April 29.

Marysville finished out PVL play this week with league leader Colfax. The Indians were one game ahead of Twelve Bridges and Bear River, who were both tied for fourth Place in the PVL and also split the series with Marysville in their head-to-head matchups.

Rollins expressed to the Dispatch that his team needs to focus on their game and go out and play.
