Indians earn double-digit win over Warriors in season opener
Nov 29, 2022 12:00AM ● By By Shaun Holkko, sports editorMARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) – The Marysville boys varsity basketball team opened the 2022-23 season on Monday night with a double-digit victory against Johnson of Sacramento.
The Indians (1-0) defeated the Warriors (1-4) by a score of 84-67. Marysville created separation in the first half and led by 17 at halftime which was ultimately the difference in the final score. The Indians led 20-12 after the first quarter.

Marysville allowed 19 points in the second period, but scored 28 of their own, to lead 48-31 at halftime. Johnson narrowly outscored the Indians in the third, 16-15. Marysville then outscored the Warriors by one in the fourth at 21-20 and went on to win 84-67.
The Indians were led in scoring by two seniors: Joshua Brown Jr. and Amrin Mann. Brown recorded a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 from the field, 2-of-5 from three and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Mann, a transfer from Sutter, tallied 20 points on 6-of-12 from the field, 2-of-4 from behind the 3-point arc and 0-of-2 from the charity stripe.

Brown stuffed the stat sheet as he added seven assists, six steals and six rebounds but also had five turnovers. Another transfer, junior forward Josiah Arrington, led Marysville in rebounding and blocks with seven and three, respectively.
The back-to-back Pioneer Valley League Champions will play three games over the weekend in the Gold Dust Tournament held at El Dorado High School from Thursday, December 1 to Saturday. The Indians begin the tourney on Thursday night at 5:30 against Roseville (1-1).
