New Community Development Director and Assistant Director Announced
Feb 04, 2022 12:00AM ● By City of MarysvilleMARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) – The City of Marysville is pleased to announce the hiring of Community Development Director, Mr. Dan Flores who begins his new role on January 26, 2022, and Assistant Community Development Director, Ms. Kristina Heredia who will began on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. The pair will oversee economic and community development for the City of Marysville.
Dan Flores, Community Development Director
Having owned and operated a small business for twenty-one years, Dan Flores brings a unique perspective to the challenges that face small and medium businesses in our region. Astute in public administration, Mr. Flores has served in an elected capacity as Sutter County Supervisor for District 2 over the past seven years.
“I’m excited to begin my new role with the City of Marysville,” said Flores. “I am confident that the work I do for Marysville, married with my role as an elected official, will make me a better all-around public servant,” Flores stated.
Mr. Flores founded Cambridge Jr. College in 2000 and served as its President until August 2021. As President of Cambridge Jr. College, Mr. Flores was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day Administration and Operations of the small business, which recently sold.
Mr. Flores steps into the role of Community Development Director with his eyes on the prize. “For decades I have traveled through Marysville, recognizing its immense potential,” said Flores. “There is no better time that the present, to pay homage to Marysville’s roots while leveraging its history to create new opportunities for growth and development,” he finished.
Mr. Flores has been married to his wife Tonya for 30 years and is the proud father of Jessica Flores, 22, who will be graduating this May from Santa Clara University with a Juris Doctorate/MBA and Nathan Flores, 19, who will be pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration followed by an MBA at Sacramento State University.
Mr. Flores attended the University of San Francisco and Columbia University in New York City, Pre-Med, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems Management and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Grand Canyon University. He is the former Chairman of the Board for Sutter North Medical Foundation, California Employer Advisory Council, Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation, Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce, Yuba Sutter Fair Foundation, and has been the Director of Sutter County Workforce Investment Board and the Sutter North Valley Surgical Hospital. Mr. Flores is involved in numerous community service organizations and projects.
Kristina Heredia, Assistant Community Development Director
Kristina Heredia comes to the City of Marysville from the County of Solano where she served as a Senior Planner. Ms. Heredia has immense knowledge in the field of City and Regional Planning and is adept in land use cases, zoning, development and permitting.
Prior to her work for the County of Solano, Ms. Heredia served as a Senior Planner III for Fairbanks North Star Borough in Fairbanks, Alaska. She previously worked for the City of Brighton, Colorado where she served as Assistant Planner. Ms. Heredia began her career as a Planning Technician with the City of Weatherford, Texas before accepting a position as a Planner I with City of San Angelo, Texas.
Ms. Heredia hails from San Diego, California where some of her family continues to reside. Family is important to her and with two brothers living in Sacramento, Marysville is the ideal location to plant roots. “I did my planning education in a small rural environment and since then, small-town planning has held my heart,” said Ms. Heredia. “It’s refreshing to work and live in a town where I will know everybody and have my fingers on the pulse of the community,” she stated.
With a strong passion for revitalization, Ms. Heredia is excited about being a part of helping Marysville thrive. “When a project is complete, whether its new construction, a new restaurant or business, it’s rewarding to know that I helped someone realize their dreams; I helped someone build that,” Ms. Heredia said with excitement. She is eager to help enhance the character of the historic downtown while making a positive personal impact on residents, businesses and visitors.
Ms. Heredia earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in May, 2013 and her Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Texas at Arlington in April, 2017.
“The City of Marysville is strategically assembling a team that will create a Marysville that is prosperous, successful and thriving,” said Marysville City Manager Jim Schaad. “We are thrilled with the addition of Mr. Flores and Ms. Heredia and look forward to helping them accomplish great things for Marysville,” he finished.
