HALLWOOD, CA (MPG) - This Summer at the 2021 Yuba-Sutter Fair Hallwood 4-H Club entered the local commodities booth exhibit competition. This exhibit is meant to have our youth showcase locally produced agricultural commodities through an artistic display designed and created by an all-youth team. After multiple days of planning and build time our Hallwood 4-H Club had built a spectacular display for our communities to be proud of.
The display contained local produce donated by Sunsweet Growers, Rancho Cenedella, Pacific Coast Producers, Sun Valley Rice, California Canning Peach Association,
Shoei Foods, Wilbur Packing, Kenney Apiaries, Farmers International and Del Monte Foods. Also on display were flowers and greenery donated by Grange Coop, The Country Florist and the Garrick Family. All of this required in the entry rules.
To go above and beyond Hallwood 4-H Club also handed out free fruit and peach cups, and stuffed animals donated by Pacific Coast Producers. Ultimately, this display fully represented what the Fair and Judges had in mind to represent and showcase the commodities produced in our Yuba-Sutter area.
Needless to say, the Hallwood 4-H Club was honored to receive the First Place Ribbon and $300 prize. The Hallwood 4-H Club went on to earn the Highest Award of the exhibit entries, the first annual Club Sweepstakes.
The 4-H club with the most awards, gauged through a points scale; 1st Place - 10 points, 2nd Place - 7 points, 3rd Place - 5 points, 4th Place - 3 points, 5th Place – 1 point Best of Show – 5 points, Reserve Best of Show – 3 points, Best of Division – 2 points.
Hallwood 4-H received over 25 1st place awards and multiple Best of Show, Reserve Best of show and Best of division awards. All of this leading to our small club winning the inaugural Yuba-Sutter Fair 4-H Club Sweepstakes. The prize for this award is invaluable as our youth will get to select their livestock pen locations for the 2022 fair and the club received a $500 prize in addition to that!
The Hallwood 4-H Club has our first meeting of the year scheduled for 7:00 pm September 13, 2021. Meetings are regularly held the first Monday of each month October- June at 7:00 pm at the Hallwood Church 2825 Highway 20, Marysville, CA 95901. September is off by a week due to Labor Day.
