BCSO Announces Arrests Related to Robbery Investigation

OROVILLE, CA (MPG) – On September 29, 2020, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) began investigating a robbery that occurred at Gold Country Casino, Oroville. Deputies determined an elderly victim was gambling at the casino and won a significant amount of money. The victim placed the money in her wallet and sat down at a gaming machine. A male, later identified as Daniel Braziel of Marysville, age 30, approached the victim. Braziel pushed the victim and used physical force to take money and other property from the victim.

Deputies and detectives worked with Gold Country Casino staff and obtained video surveillance which captured portions of the robbery. After the robbery Braziel ran to the casino parking lot and got into the passenger seat of a vehicle being driven by a female. Based on the video surveillance, deputies and detectives identified the female as Regina Brito of Marysville, age 49. Brito is Braziel’s mother. During the investigation detectives located evidence Brito assisted with the robbery.

On September 30, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Braziel and Brito. Detectives also obtained a search warrant for a residence located in Olivehurst. With the assistance of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, detectives served the search warrant. During the service of the search warrant detectives located the vehicle Brito was driving during the robbery.

After serving the search warrant detectives contacted and placed Brito under arrest at an apartment in Linda. During the arrest of Brito detectives located property that was taken during the robbery. Later in the evening, detectives located Braziel driving a vehicle in the Linda area. Braziel was contacted and placed under arrest without incident. During the arrest and subsequent interview with Braziel, detectives located additional evidence related to the robbery.

On the evening of September 30, Braziel and Brito were booked into the Butte County Jail for felony counts of robbery and elder abuse. Braziel and Brito are scheduled to be arraigned at the Butte County Superior Court on Friday, October 2, at 3 PM.
