19-Year-Old Man Killed Attempting to Stop Thieves
Sep 16, 2020 12:00AM ● By Sutter County Sheriff's OfficeYUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - On September 10, 2020, at approximately 9:00 pm, The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a physical fight occurring near the 2700 block of Howlett Avenue in Yuba City. Deputies responded to the location and contacted a male resident in that area who reported two men were attempting to steal his vehicle. The suspects fled in a white sedan. The resident’s 19-year-old son attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle by reaching into the vehicle to disable it. The son was dragged by the vehicle and was found on the roadway with major injuries. Deputies attempted to render aid to the victim and called for medical. The victim was transported to a local hospital via ambulance and later pronounced deceased.
The suspects were able to escape the scene prior to the Deputies arriving. Both suspects were described as white male adults in their early 20’s with thin builds. Detectives are working tirelessly to follow up on developed leads to bring these suspects to justice. The victim’s family is in our thoughts during this sad time. Out of respect and safety for the family, names are not being released at this time.
Update: Through non-stop investigative efforts, the suspects in this case were identified as 18-year old Edgar James McKnight and 19-year old Danny Floyd Ray McKnight. Both suspects were taken into custody and booked into the Sutter County Jail with charges alleging homicide. The Sheriff's Office offers its condolences to the victim's family and prays for healing during this difficult time.
