Oroville Resident Arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

OROVILLE, CA (MPG) – On July 17, 2020, Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies responded to a local hospital and contacted the victim of an assault. The victim told deputies David Gonzales of Oroville, 41, was at his residence in Palermo earlier in the day. The victim explained Gonzales became upset with the victim and proceeded to strike the victim multiple times with a baseball bat. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of being struck with the baseball bat. Deputies determined Gonzales was on active California State Parole for assault with a deadly weapon.
Deputies and detectives responded to the victim’s residence and collected evidence. Evidence was located which indicated Gonzales left the victim’s residence and went to a residence located in the 2800 block of Craig Avenue, Palermo. On the evening of July 17, deputies and detectives located Gonzales. Gonzales was placed under arrest for a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, and for violation of the terms and conditions of his California State Parole.
On July 20, detectives from the BCSO Felony Investigations Unit and BCSO Special Enforcement Unit served a search warrant at the residence located in the 2800 block of Craig Avenue. During the service of the search warrant detectives located the baseball bat that was used in the assault, a firearm, and approximately 182 marijuana plants. Three children were also located at the residence. Detectives determined two of the children were present when Gonzales hit the victim with the baseball bat. Detectives determined the residence and property was not safe for children. All three children were detained and turned over to Butte County Children’s Services.
Gonzales is scheduled to be arraigned at the Butte County Superior Court on Tuesday, July 21, at 3 PM. Based on the fact Gonzales violated the terms and conditions of his parole, Gonzales is not eligible for bail until he attends future court proceedings.
