Butte County Sheriff's Office Announces Arrests Related to Berry Creek Shooting
Jun 25, 2020 12:00AM ● By Butte County Sheriff's Office Press ReleaseBUTTE COUNTY , CA (MPG) - The Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) announced the arrests of Darrell Jordan of Berry Creek, 64 and Sarah Jordan of Berry Creek, 43. On June 9, an individual called BCSO and reported a juvenile had been shot at a residence located in the 200 block of Graystone Lane, Berry Creek. The reporting party stated the juvenile was being transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. An ambulance responding to the residence intercepted the vehicle transporting the juvenile. Paramedics took custody of the juvenile and transported the juvenile to a local hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors performed emergency surgery on the juvenile. The juvenile is in serious condition and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Detectives later responded to the hospital and confirmed the juvenile’s injuries were caused from a gunshot.
Deputies responded to the residence where the shooting occurred (located in the 200 block of Graystone Lane, Berry Creek) and determined Darrell Jordan was the individual responsible for shooting the juvenile. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and interviewed Darrell. Darrell told detectives he was involved in an altercation with a 20-year-old relative. The altercation ended and Darrell went to a shed and retrieved a handgun. Darrell pointed the handgun at the 20-year-old relative and a second altercation took place. At some point during the altercation the handgun discharged, and the juvenile victim was struck with a bullet fired from the handgun.
Deputies and detectives contacted multiple individuals at the residence where the shooting occurred to include three additional children and Sarah Jordan. Detectives determined Sarah Jordan was the children’s mother, and Darrell Jordan was the children’s grandfather. The children, Sarah and Darrell all reside on the property where the shooting occurred. During a search of the residence and property numerous evidence items were located to include over 60 marijuana plants, approximately 139 pounds of processed marijuana, and a handgun. Detectives noticed the residence and property were in deplorable condition and were unsafe for children. All four children were detained by Children’s Services.
Darrell was placed under arrest for one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, one felony count of child endangerment, one felony count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, one felony count of possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, and one misdemeanor count of brandishing a firearm. Sarah was placed under arrest for four felony counts of child endangerment. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with additional information to contact Detective Vaj Thao at 530-538-7671.
