Marysville Police Arrest Rape Suspect
May 21, 2020 12:00AM ● By Marysville Police DepartmentMARYSVILLE, CA (MPG) - On May 13, 2020 at about 8:00 pm, Marysville Police received emergency calls in reference to an attempted rape that had just occurred in the railroad trestle tunnel located on B Street at 17th Street. Officers responded and contacted the victim. Officers obtained information on the assault, collected physical evidence (pretzel bag discarded by suspect), and saturated the area looking for the suspect.
On May 14, 2020, Officers’ were able to obtain video footage from the area that captured the assault. At about 5:00 pm, Officers used still photos from the video and began making several contracts throughout the community attempting to identify the suspect. As a result of making these contacts, a potential suspect was identified. Officers received information the suspect frequents Ellis Lake. Marysville Police personnel saturated the area and at about 7:45 pm, Marysville Police located the suspect on the lakes edge behind the Watermarke Plaza.
The suspect, 33-year-old Alfonso Ferrer, transient, Marysville CA, was detained. Ferrer was wearing the same sweatshirts and backpack that he wore during the assault. Ferrer was also in possession of a Raiders beanie in his backpack that matched the beanie worn during the assault.
Personnel continued their investigation and Ferrer was positively identified by the victim. Personnel went to the Dollar Tree store at 14th Street at B Street as it was 3 blocks south of where the assault occurred. Personnel identified the same bag of pretzels at the store that were discarded at the scene of the assault. Personnel reviewed video footage and captured Ferrer entering the store at 7:46 pm and exiting the store at 7:51pm, after stealing the pretzels. This was approximately 9 minutes before the assault.
Based on this investigation, Ferrer was arrested for Assault with the Intent to Commit Rape, Attempted Rape, and Sexual Battery. Ferrer was booked into the Yuba County Jail.
“The citizens of Marysville can rest a little easier tonight knowing this suspect is off the street”, Police Chief Christian Sachs said.
