Yuba City

YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The Yuba City girls softball team rebounded after their first Capital Valley Conference loss with a 13-3 victory over the Roseville Lady Tigers on Thursday, April 11, to stay in top spot of the league.

The win against Roseville was the first for Yuba City since the 2022 season, and the Lady Honkers keep displaying their high-level confidence after they were beaten for the first time in league play a couple days earlier against Bella Vista.

Yuba City sophomore shortstop Chloe Gonzales and junior center fielder Alexia Alvarez led the way in the game with three hits a piece as Gonzales had a double and a triple in the game. Alvarez led the Lady Honkers’ with five runs-batted-in (RBI’s) in the victory.

Gonzales told the Dispatch that the day in between the games they worked on staying level and driving through the softball, along with swinging at better pitches in the strike zone.

Alvarez added that another adjustment of a good vibe throughout the warming up process was music and constantly cheering one another on, and the constant positivity throughout the team was a big factor in the win against Roseville.

Gonzales and Alvarez told the Dispatch that the knowledge and positivity that Head Coach Patty Gates brings to the team on a daily basis is amazing.

Yuba City junior pitcher Tori Hernandez pitched another great performance and the defense behind her was spectacular.

Sutter

SUTTER, CA (MPG) - The Sutter Union girls softball team continued their success last week in the Pioneer Valley League as they had two shutouts in a 9-0 victory over Twelve Bridges and a 24-0 win over Center.

Sutter hit .525 as a team between the two games and 10 players of the Lady Huskies accounted for one hit during the week.

Against Twelve Bridges, Sutter senior shortstop Grace Diaz led the way with three hits and three runs-batted-in (RBI’s), and senior catcher/Sacramento State signee Alexa Carino blasted an opposite-field home run.

Lady Huskies senior pitcher/Boise State signee Olivia Bauer tossed a perfect game from the circle. Bauer struck out 12 hitters and threw 72% strikes in the game.

Bauer and Carino exploded the next game in the 24-0 win over Center as they both had three hits, hit a home run and had six RBI’s each in the game.

The Lady Huskies were scheduled to host Wheatland this past Tuesday and were supposed to travel to play at Colfax yesterday, Thursday, April 18.

River Valley

YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - The River Valley girls softball team got their first Capital Valley Conference win this season as they beat Bella Vista on Thursday, April 11.

The win over Bella Vista snapped a four-game losing streak as River Valley was able to survive three long balls off the bats of Bella Vista hitters.

It was an all-around team effort from the Lady Falcons as they received a hit from every player in the game, and freshman pitcher Ainsley Holley pitched 4.1 innings where she allowed three earned runs, gave up three hits and struck out four hitters.

River Valley junior Claudia Dudek came into the fifth inning and relieved Holley for the final 1.2 innings to shut the door on the Lady Broncos.

The Lady Falcons’ win helped Yuba City stay at the top of the CVC for the time. River Valley was scheduled to host Woodcreek and Antelope in CVC play this week.
