YUBA CITY, CA (MPG) - Casa de Esperanza has long been a beacon of hope and safety for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, child and elder abuse, and human trafficking in the Yuba, Sutter and Colusa County communities.

Recognizing the importance of ensuring the safety and comfort of its residents, Casa de Esperanza will implement a new fencing project to enhance safety and security measures, thanks to a generous grant of more than $130,000 from the Sutter Medical Foundation.

The project will enhance overall safety and well-being by establishing secured entry and exit points, implementing fencing protection that will serve as a protective barrier, and enabling survivors and staff to enjoy activities without fear. This project will boost their overall satisfaction and improve physical and mental health.

“I am truly grateful for Sutter Medical Foundation's generous grant. This funding will empower us to create a more secure environment, ensuring that individuals accessing our services can find a place of refuge and healing without fear,” said Casa de Esperanza executive director Michelle Downing.

The organization's efforts to enhance safety measures serve as a reminder of its unwavering commitment to serving the community and a testament to its ongoing mission to end domestic and sexual violence and empower survivors on their path to healing and recovery.

"We are thrilled to support Casa de Esperanza in their important work of empowering and assisting survivors of domestic and sexual violence in our community," said Sutter Health Community Health director Kelly Brenk.

As a not-for-profit organization, Sutter Health is committed to the health and well-being of the communities it serves. That commitment includes supporting community health initiatives and programs outside of its care facilities. Sutter Health’s total community benefit investment was $822 million in 2023. These funds supported traditional charity care, unreimbursed Medi-Cal costs, health education and community clinics.
