Yuba City, CA (MPG) - Along Plumas Street in downtown Yuba City, the Sixth Annual Bunny Hop Scavenger Hunt started out a little slow this year. It was chilly weather and the kids were bundled. But the excitement in their faces as they showed off their baskets full of gathered Easter eggs was priceless.

As the day warmed up, more children showed up to try for prizes and meet the Easter Bunny. This year’s Bunny Hop Scavenger Hunt was sponsored by Sopa Thai restaurant, Sutter-Butte Business Services, Cupcake Magic and Twin City Flooring.

Complete with bunny ears, families bundled up against the chill while searching for prize eggs.

Yuba City Downtown Business Association coordinator Cameo Arrasmith explained how the scavenger hunt worked.

“We purchased 4,000 eggs and filled them with candy, stickers and some tickets. The kids get to go up to three different routes,” Arrasmith said. “Each time they come back with the eggs gathered from the businesses they visited, they are entered for a chance to win larger prizes such as a bicycle or a gift basket from Cowgirl Boutique, and if they get a yellow ticket in their egg, there are 30 instant prizes where they get to play Plinko and wherever the disc lands is the prize they get.”

Plinko is a stand-up board game where a large board with many pegs attached to it has slots at the bottom where numbers correspond to prizes. The visitors received a weighted chip for a chance to win. Dropping the chip anywhere along the top of the board results in a “plinking” sound when the chip lands randomly in one of the prize slots at the bottom.

The 30 instant prizes were donated by Yuba City sponsors and business owners.

A photo booth was set up at the Sawyer’s Sweet Spot candy shop, where children could get a photo with the ever-popular Easter Bunny.

Carly Woods from Oregon was visiting her cousins in Yuba City. She got into the spirit of the day by dressing warmly in a full bunny suit.

Carly Woods from Oregon wore her hybrid unicorn/bunny outfit while meeting business owners and gathering the coveted prize eggs.

“Well, this is actually a unicorn suit and I put bunny ears on it,” she said. Carly was also very happy that the Bunny Hop wasn’t as crowded as last year, which made it easier to visit the businesses along the Plumas Street strip.
